Powell Endorses Obama

Former U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell, a Republican and one of the few –if only– widely respected figures from the Bush Administration, today formally endorsed Barack Obama for president.

Here’s a seven minute clip from today’s Meet The Press which is most interesting not so much for his endorsement, but moreso for his take on how the McCain-Palin ticket, along with the Republican party, has made a mockery of this campaign.

Worth watching.

  1. A great endorsement speech. Thanks for alerting me to it.

    Now, I only hope that the Bradley factor goes away. I am in Ljubljana now, and cannot test my theory, but in Kentucky where I vote – it is present. God help us.

  2. I always had respect for Powell because he always seemed to have the best interest for America at heart…..though with his endorsement of Socialism…..I think he has lost it……

  3. Thanks a lot for your birthday wishes. I am on the move back home and will not be around for a certain time. Once I am back, I will visit your blog more in detail.

    And I am pleased about Colin Powell’ support. He is a great man.

    See you soon and take care.

  4. @Mile: the same in Ohio, from where there’s plenty of anecdotal video evidence crawling around the internet where people have no qualms about expressing how they feel about the possibility of an African-American president.

    @elwoodin: Socialism? Yikes! Oh no, not that! I didn’t get that at all in his Meet the Press appearance, or in his follow-up comments, which were just as much an indictment of the Republican campaign as they were an endorsement of Obama.

    @Peter: thanks for stopping by!

    @ams: I don’t know his entire family tree, but his parents were immigrants from Jamaica.

  5. That was an awesome speech, in my opinion.

    I just read a blog (which I found via blogexplosion) where the guy said he was once a fan of Powell but lost all respect for him after seeing the video, saying he was making his decision based on color.

    WTF? I had to leave my 2 cents. It had nothing to do with color.

    Nice blog, btw.
